Subin Kim is a textile designer based in Berlin, specialising in silk weave and surface design, currently on the MA Textiles programme at the Royal College of Art. In Berlin she works with pre-owned silk garments sourced from flea markets and vintage shops, using them as painting surfaces to explore material transformation, reuse, and the fluid body — work that blurs textile, painting, and craft. Her weave and print practice takes light on water as its starting point, translating it through organzine, tram, and mulberry silks on dobby and jacquard looms, and through screen, mono, and discharge printing. Historical silks and the long history of textile trade underpin the work.
